Lusu - A Crime Boss's Double Life
It was only after the murder that the children realized their father didn't work in a toy factory. He was a serious criminal.
Osmo Ahlqvist, also known as Lusu, was one of the country's most notorious criminals, but his own children were unaware of their father's double life. Two crime reporters and Ahlqvist's daughter set out to uncover Lusu's unusual life.
Crime boss. Athlete. Musician. Entrepreneur. Father of a large family. At school, 15-year-old Osmo Ahlqvist received a perfect score for conduct. Minor crimes led him to a notorious boys' home, where children were beaten into submission. Osmo didn't return home as a good boy, but as an enemy of society. Later, "Lusu" became one of Finland's most well-known criminals.
Lusu Ahlqvist's children recount how they found out their father wasn't working at a toy factory. His ex-wife, accomplices, police, and friends talk about the man behind many personalities. A man whose fate was sealed by greed for money. The book also tells the story of the eternal rivalry and cooperation between robbers and police, and the ruthlessness of the underworld.
In the spring of 1995, Lusu's life ended in gunfire at his doorstep in Tavastila, Kotka. The police uncovered detailed underworld hitman plans with a 100,000 mark bounty, but only one man was convicted. Fear has silenced those who know the background for 27 years. The murder shattered a family of four, who have still not recovered from their father's death.
Was the police involved in Lusu's drug business? Why had the murder weapon been in police possession shortly before the bloodbath? What was life like for the children in a family where serious criminals visited and even at Christmas, a triple murderer dressed as Santa distributed gifts?
